FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS

Everyone has the ability to dream

As children, we all have big, bold dreams about what our life will look like when we grow up. We’re actively encouraged to dream about our career aspirations, where we’d live, or what our family might look like.

But where do our dreams go? Sometimes our dreams change and sometimes our dreams get set to the side because life has a way of, well, getting in the way.

It’s never too late

Championing and inspiring women is at the forefront of everything I do. Nurturing a community that is empowered to invest in themselves and the world around them feeds my soul and keeps me grounded.

I often get asked questions like why I started Becky’s Boutique, who/what inspires me, and for advice on how to start a business—and I hope that sharing my journey and the things I’ve learnt along the way will help inspire others to realise their own success.

So, if you dream about a career change, mastering a new skill or hobby, or something else, know that it’s never too late and you’re never too old to follow your dreams.

Start chasing your dreams

How exactly can you find success in chasing your dreams? Here are my top five tips to help you get started:

Write it down: When your hopes and dreams remain in your head, it becomes easy to ignore them. Make them feel more “real” by talking about them or writing them down. This can help you to think through them in a deeper, more meaningful way.

Create a vision board: A vision board serves as a visual reminder of the positive things you want to work toward in your life. Once you create a vision board of the goals you want to achieve—and how you want to feel when you achieve them—you should keep it in a place where you can see it every day to help you stay motivated to keep going.

Take one step at a time: There’s nothing wrong with wanting to achieve a big goal, but you have to work backwards from there to identify the smaller steps you can take that will get you to the finish line. Try creating a goal ladder as a visual tool to map out a plan to conquer your dreams.

Stay positive: When you’re optimistic about still achieving your dreams despite setbacks you might experience, you’re more likely to accomplish them in the long term. Adopt a positive mindset by incorporating daily lifestyle changes such as self-evaluation, an openness to humour, and positive self-talk, among others.

Learn from failure: When you do inevitably experience a failure, you can use your positive mindset to turn the bump in the road into a positive learning experience. Experiencing a setback or obstacle isn’t a sign that you should stop trying to reach for the stars; it’s a chance for you to merely change your tactics for how you will achieve your goals. And once you finally accomplish your dream, it will be that much sweeter.
