HALLMARKING

WHAT IS A HALLMARK?

A Hallmark is a mark or a series of marks that are stamped onto certain metals to certify their preciousness and purity. You can find out more about hallmarking from the UK Assay Office.

HALLMARKING AT BECKY’S BOUTIQUE

Some of our sterling silver pieces are stamped with the 925 metal purity stamp, certifying that our pieces are made with a minimum of 92.5% pure silver. This purity grade is more commonly known as Sterling Silver and is considered the very best in class for silver jewellery.

Further to this, some of our collections carry heavier pieces and these items will have a further Hallmark engraved to show they have been individually certified and tested by the UK Assay office. The UK Assay office requires any jewellery weighing over 7.78 grams to have this special hallmark which must be issued from one of their four Assay offices. We ensure all hallmarks are placed on the back or inside band of your jewellery, in an area not visible to you when you wear it.

Please note that we do not hallmark lighter weight items as standard in order to keep our prices and production times to a minimum. However, if you would like to have a full UK hallmark added to your item, please refer to our UK Hallmarking Service.

If the item requires a UK hallmark, this will be detailed in the product specifications. Please note that these items will have a longer processing time (typically 2 – 3 weeks) as they must be sent to the UK Assay office for testing.

If you require more information about hallmarking, then please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be more than happy to provide further information.
