CREATING A CAPSULE JEWELLERY WARDROBE

In recent years, creating a ‘capsule wardrobe’ has become a popular dialogue in the blog/YouTube/digital sphere. Driven by the desire to avoid ‘fast fashion’ and de-clutter our lives, we are increasingly foregoing throwaway fashion and instead of developing capsule collections of quality (though still not bank-breaking) pieces.

This is about selectively building a collection which you can use day in day out, and which can be mix and matched according to the occasion.

WHAT IS CAPSULING?

The idea of a capsule wardrobe—a small selection of quality items you can get a lot of wear out of—is taking the fashion world by storm. Whether applied to your wardrobe, jewellery box or your makeup bag/kit, capsules can help you hone your taste, simplify your morning routine, and avoid clutter.

CREATE YOUR OWN CURATED JEWELLERY COLLECTION

Instead of buying en-masse once more, you can work on developing a capsule jewellery collection. We like to build a mix and match collection of items from heirlooms, vintage finds and new purchases. But there’s no right and wrong here; a capsule collection will be unique to us all as it is about investing in pieces you totally LOVE and enjoying them day in day out.

Choose Your Base Metal Colour

When creating your capsule jewellery collection, you will want to choose your base metal colour so you can develop a cohesive collection. This makes it easier for you to find pieces which will work well together and it makes it simpler for other people to choose pieces for you too. However, if you’re someone who likes to mix and match your metals – go for it! This is, after all, your collection to create.

Start With One Piece Per Category

When you’re building your capsule jewellery collection, we find it helpful to start with one piece per ‘category’: one bracelet, one pendant, one ring, one set of earrings. Once you have your ‘base set’ of pieces, you can then choose to add new items from there.

In terms of the ‘starter pieces’ for your collection, we recommend investing in classic items first:
