Christmas Gift Planning Tips

Planning what to give everyone doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Make presents an easier part of the holidays with these handy Christmas Gift planning tips and ideas.

Christmas presents are one of the biggest things to get sorted out in the run up to Christmas. Whether it’s knowing what to buy (and for whom), planning your gift budget, or knowing when to send everything so it gets there in time – there’s a LOT to organise.

So, how can we make the whole process easier, not only on our bank accounts, but also on our time and energy commitments at an already busy time of year?

That’s where these tips come in!

Plan what to buy

Sounds like a simple task, but it can be missed so often. We go out to the shops with no shopping list and then either get overwhelmed by the choice or end up spending too much on things that actually aren’t that great.

It’s worth taking some time up front to plan who you are buying for, gift ideas for that person, and a Christmas budget to stick to (that Christmas fund ISN’T infinite…!)

It’s tempting to make a spreadsheet on your computer but, this year, why not make creating a list a Christmas experience. Put on some comfy clothes. If you have a fireplace, light a fire. Turn on relaxing music. Maybe even Christmas music to get you into the spirit. Make a cup of your favorite tea or pour a glass of wine and sit down with paper and pen.

Use gift guides to check out ideas and the most popular items for inspiration. At Becky’s Boutique, we have a wide range of gift guides to discover in our Festive Gift Shop, including gifts by budget, gifts by recipient, gift edits by type/category, etc.

Buy gifts as you see them

Don’t wait until a designated Christmas shopping day, as this adds a lot of unnecessary pressure. If you see things at any time of the year that would make the perfect gift for someone, then get it there and then.

You may not remember what you saw at a later date, or there may be a delivery delay when you do get round to ordering it, or it may be out of stock or a higher price etc. – and it also helps to spread the cost of buying Christmas gifts.

You’ll also thank your past self when you get nearer to Christmas and you’re already able to tick off lots of gifts and you have less shopping to do as a result. No one wants to be caught out by delivery delays and postal backlogs.

Take the stress out of your gift shopping this festive season by making a note of our shipping options and holiday order deadlines based on your region. These dates are much sooner for our Fine Collection pieces as we need to allow extra time for hallmarking.

Plan your Christmas gift budgets

Have a set amount for each person, taking into account your total gifts budget, and know what that should include.

Don’t just budget for the gift itself – make sure you include any delivery and gift wrapping costs. Keep a running total if you tend to buy little things as and when you see them so you don’t end up overspending.

Check with friends and family if a budget could be used to limit spending and any guilt that they may buy more than you.

At Becky’s Boutique, we have partnered with Klarna to bring you new ways to pay at checkout. It’s a safe and simple way to invest in the jewellery you want, when you want it.

Wrap Christmas presents as you buy them

It’s a lot less overwhelming to wrap one or two presents at a time, and then store them away until you need them rather than wait until you have to wrap them all in one go. You’ll also be able to hide things more easily from your family if they are already wrapped.

If you’re buying for children, put toys together before wrapping, unless you have an urge to spend Christmas Day building them, searching for batteries, or worse, dealing with tears when all the pieces for something aren’t there, etc. This is your gift to yourself when Christmas Day comes around!

You may be buying for kids AND adults – and wrapping on behalf of Santa – so it makes sense to have a few different wrapping papers ready so that it doesn’t all look the same. You can also save money by wrapping gifts with brown parcel paper and then adding ribbons, stamps, tags, etc. to make them look great. It’s cheaper but looks gorgeous!

All our jewellery arrives already wrapped in our sustainable packaging, so all you need to do is pop a label on it and put it under the tree! You can also upgrade to our luxury gift wrap option at the checkout, especially if you want us to send the gift directly to the recipient – and we can add your personal gift message in the package too.

Flexible gifts that anyone can enjoy

Gift cards make great presents for several reasons. If you still aren’t sure what to get for the special people in your life, gift cards make a good choice and cut down on unwanted gifts.

Gift cards are flexible for everyone; they allow the recipient to choose what to buy and take away some of your anxiety associated with finding just the right present. Who doesn’t like the freedom to get what they REALLY want?

When giving gift cards, it’s also easier to stay on budget. You don’t have to worry about spending just a little bit more for something you see that would be “perfect” but outside your limit. With gift cards, you just decide on an amount and that’s it.
